The 2015 Twitter Stripper Saga “Zola” Is Coming To A Screen Near You, Taylour Paige Has Been Cast To Play Lead

Remember a few years ago when #Twitter user Aziah Wells told the story of a whole 48-hour road trip adventure with herself, a stripper named Jessica and the stripper’s boyfriend, in 140 characters increments? Well, that hilariously intriguing story was co-signed on Twitter by #AvaDuVernay, amongst other big celebrities and has been given the green light to begin filming for the movie adaptation.

Janicza Bravo, who has directed episodes of #Atlanta, Love and Dear White

People has signed on to direct the film and replaces James Franco, who was originally set to direct the film in 2016. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bravo wrote the screenplay with playwrights Jeremy Harris, Andrew Neel and Mike Roberts, based on Wells’ life and the Rolling Stone magazine article “Zola Tells All: The Real Story Behind the Greatest Stripper Saga Ever Tweeted”.

When speaking on choosing #TaylourPaige for the role, Bravo said, “I’m at a coffee shop in L.A. and in walks this girl. I’m entranced and can’t stop staring. It’s the way she sits in her body. It’s agency. It’s self-possession … everything that drew me to telling this story. One year later she auditions, and I knew instantly — like, I knew it then: After seeing 700 girls, the one meant to be finally walked in.”

Taylour is most recently seen in “White Boy Rick” and was a lead star in the show #HitTheFloor” as well as featured in #HighSchoolMusical, #Grey’sAnatomy and #Ballers. 

A24, who will be producing the film, said in a statement, “Zola is an iconic, iconoclastic role, and Taylour and Janicza are exactly the people to bring the character to life. We’re thrilled to be working with them on this too-real-to-be-true saga, a defining and legendary entry in the deeply American road trip genre.”
