Shonda Rhimes Discusses Her Netflix Deal And Women In Hollywood: “I Am The Highest-Paid Show Runner In Television”

There’s no question that Shonda Rhimes has worked her way up to one of the biggest names in TV. Now, the prime time phenomenon is opening up in a big way about her recent Netflix deal. 

“I am the highest-paid showrunner in television,” Rhimes declared during Elle magazine’s Women in Hollywood celebration, according to the Hollywood Reporter. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The declaration came toward the end of Rhimes’ speech as the hit-maker made a notable point of the difference between men and women in Hollywood. 

“The other day I came to this conclusion that men brag and women hide. Even when they don’t deserve to brag, men brag — [Donald] Trump, [Brett] Kavanaugh — and when men do deserve to brag, they are good at it. They do it so well. Men brag about everything, even things that aren’t things. A little while ago in an inspiring article, Ellen [Pompeo] told the world she was the highest paid woman in dramatic television. She did not hide. She bragged. She said she was powerful and she said deserved it, and there was some blowback,” Rhimes continued. “There should not have been. I have seen a thousand articles like that from men but she’s a woman and she shouldn’t say things like that.”

While Rhimes did not get specific regarding her deal, she did deny early rumors that the payment was around $100 million dollars. 

Interestingly enough, both Ryan Murphy and Greg Berlanti, who signed recent TV deals for $300 million and $400 million respectively, were in attendance. 

With these type of figures floating around, one could only speculate just how much Rhimes’ Netflix deal is worth.
