Just one week after Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson decided to call it quits in their whirlwind relationship, the comedian is finally opening up about the entire ordeal the best way he knows how- with jokes.
In an adult-friendly routine on Saturday, Davidson spoke publicly for the first time about life after Grande.
“Well, as you could tell, I don’t want to be here,” Davidson said at the “Judd & Pete for America” benefit for the Swing Left political action committee. “There’s a lot going on. Does anybody have any open rooms? Looking for a roommate?”
Davidson met the pop star back in May and asked for her hand in marriage just one month later. But, after five months, the engagement, and the sudden death of Grande’s ex-boyfriend, the two agreed to part ways.
“What else is going on? Um, I’ve been covering a bunch of tattoos, that’s fun. I’m fucking zero for two in the tattoo [department],” he said of his Grande inspired tattoos, referencing his previously covered ink of his other ex.
“Yeah, I’m afraid to get my mom tattooed on me, that’s how bad it is,” he added.
“So, obviously you know I, we broke up or whatever, but when me and her first got engaged we got tattoos,” Davidson continued. “And it was like in a magazine like, ‘Was Pete Davidson stupid?’ And 93% of it said yes.”
“So, my boy, he was like, ‘Don’t listen to that shit man. They’re literally fucking haters.’ And I’m like, yeah, fuck that. I’m not stupid. And the other day we were in my kitchen and he was like, ‘Yo, bro, turns out you were stupid.’”
As the show continued Judd Apatow applauded his co-host for performing at the benefit despite his breakup, according to Huff Post.
“Well, you put me on the flyer, I had to,” Davidson responded. “Fuck my feelings.”
Apatow joked back: “I care more about America than your feelings, I do. I care more about America than Pete’s feelings.”
“I feel like I am America,” Davidson said. “I’m a good guy that just keeps getting kicked in the dick. You’re like, ‘Ah, that fucking poor kid. Hope he doesn’t kill himself.’ That’s America.”
