Back in August, Nicki Minaj dropped her fourth studio album, “Queen,” which featured a few of the rapper’s musical peers, including Rae Sremmurd, Foxy Brown, Eminem, Lil Wayne, Ariana Grande and more.
However, just weeks before the August release, Minaj considered postponing her album for the second time, as it was originally set to be released in June, to get clearance for another song, titled, “Sorry,” featuring “one of the greatest rappers of all-time.” But in the end, Minaj went on to release the album without it.
Days later, Funk Flex debuted the track, and now, Ms. Minaj has been slapped with a lawsuit over the leaked audio.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
According to TMZ, Tracy Chapman has filed a suit against the Queens-bred rapper over her song, “Baby Can I Hold You.” In the docs obtained by the publication, Chapman says Minaj and her team made multiple attempts and requests to license her song in June, but all requests were rejected. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In fact, in a now-deleted tweet, Minaj herself alluded to the rejected request, writing, “Sis said no,” on the same day it was debuted on Hot 97 and played on “The Breakfast Club.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So now, as a result of the release, Chapman wants Minaj to pay up for ripping half of the lyrics and vocal melody of her song. She also wants a judge to prohibit the rapper and her crew from releasing the song again.
