Kanye West has donated $73,540 to Chicago mayoral candidate Amara Enyia.
It’s only been six days since fellow Chicago native Chance The Rapper publicly endorsed Eniya’s mayoral campaign in Chicago and now West is making his own contributions.
On Monday (Oct. 22), West gave $73,540 to the Friends of Amara Enyia political action committee, according to the Illinois State Board of Elections. Enyia plans to use the funds towards paying off the debt owed to the state of Illinois, which has to be paid off by Dec. 20. Back in 2015, Enyia briefly ran for mayor but dropped after signatures from a petition were challenged. Her fines piled up and held her back from being able to have her name on ballots for this running.
Eniya’s campaign issued a statement to Chicago Sun-Times that read: “The $73,540 debt to the Illinois State Board of Elections has been paid in full. The Amara Enyia campaign thanks Chicago native, Kanye West, for his generous action. Amara’s campaign is energizing people around the city with bold ideas and solutions that move Chicago forward. We are excited to engage people of all walks of life as we focus our efforts on getting on the ballot.”
