Early Thursday morning, 50 Cent took to Instagram to pose a question about the forthcoming season of power, “So what if I told you next season is the last season POWER. What would you say to me?”
At the time, most fans just chalked the question up to the rapper’s usual antics, but others were very concerned about the fate of their favorite show. But now, while the fate of the show remains unclear, it appears the franchise itself may be expanding, thanks to show-runner, Courtney Kemp.
According to Hollywood Reporter, Kemp has just signed a multi-year overall deal with Starz’s parent company, Lionsgate, to develop a slew of projects, including several “inspired by the world of Power,” through her End of Episode company.
“I’m incredibly proud of the success we’ve had with ‘Power’, and I’m excited about expanding our banner and diversifying the types of stories we’re telling,” Kemp said. “Chris [Selak, who Kemp hired as president of End of Episode] brings with her a depth of experience that will elevate End of Episode to a new level, and I’m looking forward to exploring new ways of writing about my obsession: the intersection of violence, power, sex and romance.”
Kemp’s deal is the second major deal for a ‘Power’ executive producer, as it came just weeks after Starz and 50 Cent agreed to a huge overall deal, earlier this month.
“Courtney is a one-of-a-kind talent, and we couldn’t be more excited about this unique and exclusive deal,” Lionsgate chairman said. “She’s an exceptional producer, incredible showrunner and Artist, and we’re proud that she chose Lionsgate as her creative incubator. WE look forward to the bold, original and provocative content she will offer our programming slates.”
