The Brooklyn Nets And Minnesota Timberwolves Pay Homage To Biggie And Prince With “City Edition” Uniforms For This Season

The Brooklyn Nets are showing love to Biggie and Minnesota Timberwolves are honoring their hometown hero, Prince by wearing “City Edition” special edition uniforms, which incorporate multiple references to the legacies of both musicians.

According to the press release, the Timberwolves uniforms are described to have the left vent on the jersey bearing a paisley leaf in tribute to Prince’s creative sanctuary, Paisley Park. The right shoulder pattern honors the iconic jacket Prince wore when performing “Purple Rain.” The “MPLS” on the left leg symbolizes the popular Minneapolis sound that Prince introduced in the late 1970s. The Timberwolves’ partial logos on the right leg and on the belt buckle are purple, of course, the color most closely associated with Prince. The distinctive font is reminiscent of the 1980s Prince era.

The Nets uniforms are reported to be all black and highlighted by a Coogi-themed, multi-color “Brooklyn Camo” pattern that runs down the sides of the jersey, shorts and along the sleeve and neckline piping. In addition, a customized *BED-STUY* mark for each player has been designed by renowned graffiti artist Eric Haze and placed above the jersey’s jock tag.

The Timberwolves are set to wear their City Edition uniforms eight times during the regular season, starting on November 16 when they host the Portland Trail Blazers. The Wolves will also sport the uniforms for limited home games.

The Brooklyn Nets will debut the “Spread Love” uniform on November 17, when they host the Los Angeles Clippers. They will wear their special edition jerseys for 15 additional games thereafter.
