In a story too reminiscent of Lesandro “Junior” Guzman Feliz’s tragic death in June, the story of another #Bronx teen ended with the bodega workers being hailed heroes.
According to #Bossip, surveillance cameras show a teenage boy running into a Bronx #bodega for help with several other teens chase behind him. In the video, the child tries to hide in the back of the aisles, but the group of teens end up finding him. Witnesses say four of the kids attacked the boy, kicking him in the head, while more teenagers looked on. At that point, bodega owner Edward Lara and his staff intervened and ultimately saved the boy’s life.
Lara said although he was worried about his own safety, he expressed he couldn’t help but think of #Junior…who was attacked and killed in a bodega just three miles from Lara’s. “The little kid came here asking for help,” Lara said. “He said ‘please help me they’re going to kill me!’”
4 New York reports that one of the suspects fired a gun on the street right before the chase and shot an innocent bystander, a 50-year-old man, who is expected to survive.
The teen is also expected to survive after being saved by the Bodega team. “They’re heroes,” Lara said of his workers. So far, the police have reported the arrest of a 15-year-old in connection with the attack and they are still looking for the others who were involved.
