Kendrick Johnson died in 2013, but the family couldn’t prove what really happened.
Johnson was found rolled up in a gym mat at Lowndes High School in Valdosta, Georgia. His death was originally ruled an accident, but the family believed he was murdered.
After five years of trying to find answers, the results of a third autopsy have been released. According to WALB 10 News, Johnson’s body was exhumed for the second time for a third autopsy.
The third autopsy revealed that Johnson’s cause of death was non-accidental blunt force trauma to his right neck and right thorax, which confirmed the family’s skepticism and contradicted the initial autopsy. The first autopsy determined the cause of death as positional asphyxia.
“We had to do it. I’d rather not of had to do it, but we got to do it because we’re searching for the truth,” the victim’s father said of the autopsy.
The family is finally getting the closure that is so desperately needed. We will continue to update as more information becomes available.
