Have you heard the expression, dress for the job you want, not the one you have? How about dress for the man you want, not the one you attract? What about when you look good, you feel good? It doesn’t matter who you are or where you grew up, it’s a well known fact that to an extent, appearance is a major factor in how we are approached, who approaches us, how we’re treated, what type of business opportunities are given to us, etc. Appearance isn’t everything but it’s a lot of things, right? And be honest, sometimes we just want to have nice things.
I decided to write a simple guide to help you look like money, without breaking the bank. As a disclaimer, let it be known that in order to look like money, you must have some money, so this is not for those who are struggling to make end’s meet. This is for those who are living comfortably and have a little extra to play around with in their budget. Make your extra $1,000 look as if you had an extra $10,000 laying around. Let it also be known that this can be looked at as a “how-to” guide for those wanting to look flashy or a “beware” guide for people needing to spot a fake Baller. Take it how you please and continue to read!
Mix & Match – A huge mistake that people make is thinking that in order to look like money, you have to wear a ton of labels and be extremely flashy. That’s not looking like money, that’s looking tacky. A little goes a long way. Invest in high-end shoes, belts and bags and pair them with nice quality (not Hanes but still affordable) white t-shirts and jeans. High end shoes, bags and belts actually have a pretty decent resale value, so when you don’t need them anymore, place them for sale and get a majority of your money back. There are also several websites like Nordstrom Rack where you can buy high end items on sale.
Uber Black – Uber Black was the only Uber there was back in the day. Uber Black is different than UberX due to the fact that it resembles car service. You are picked up in a luxury black car, your driver is dressed in a tux, most drivers open doors, etc. Arriving in style in a black car and a personal driver gives the facade that you are important. This makes for a great entrance. It costs a little bit more than regular Uber, but it’s worth the confidence boost every now and then.
Rent Private Jets – Did you know you could rent private jets? It’s not that expensive either. Many jet companies offer decent deals on select locations. For maybe $2,000 you and 5 of your friends can fly the next state over. That may seem kind of silly, but think of the experience. Could make for a great birthday gift, or maybe you just want to do it for the Gram. $2,000 between 6 people is definitely do-able and private jets look awesome in pictures.
Hotwire/Priceline – Do you travel a lot and want to stay in nice hotels without breaking the bank? Are you utilizing websites like Hotwire? Site like Hotwire and Priceline allow you to choose a Hotel star rating and provide you with a discounted cost. They do not provide you with the name of the Hotel until after you pay. The benefit of this for you is that you can choose a 5 star hotel and end up paying 30%-60% off the nightly cost. The only downside is not knowing where you’re staying until it’s booked. But is that really a downside when it’s a 5 star hotel? Also keep an eye on Groupon and Living Social. They always have great deals on awesome hotels and destinations.
Rent It But Don’t Forget It – Did you know that you could rent clothes, bags and shoes? Sure can! With websites like Bag Borrow or Steal and Rent The Runway, you can search their site for high end items and they ship it to you. Once you’ve worn it to that fancy dinner date, send it back and do it all over again next time. It’s a lot better than paying full price for something you’ll probably only wear once anyway.
Thrift/Consign – This one is the most obvious and is not a secret anymore — thrift thrift thrift! Thrifting in your city is best done in the rich parts of town. You’ll be amazed at what people give away when they’re just cleaning out their closets. Consignment shops are popping up all over the place too. In fact, there are many online consignment shops on Instagram where you can buy luxury bags and shoes at a pretty nice discount.
Remember the law of attraction ladies and gents. Look rich, attract rich, become rich.
