Over the holiday weekend, The Diplomats released their first album after 14 years, “Diplomatic Ties,” signifying the official return and reconciliation of founding members, Cam’ron and Jim Jones.
In fact, on the very first track, Cam’ron used the opportunity to call out Kanye West, using a Drake sample, which subtly highlighted the rift between the two. “Dame Dash my man, he shootin’ then I’m buckin’ with him. They shootin’ at us? Shit, I’m duckin’ with him. But I had to be firm and tell ‘em that Kanye only f*ck witchu when no one else is f**ckin’ with him,” Cam rapped.
“He told me he was bipolar. I looked and said, ‘Bipolar?’…Don’t be ridiculous, he wasn’t in the mix with us,” Cam continued. “Bricks from Hamilton Terrace; He didn’t take the risk with us. Ain’t boil a coffee pot, ain’t open the barbershop…where we sold hydro at, where we pissed off the cops. The ones in the Taurus, ni**a, he a tourist. Uncle Tom ni**a know nothin’ about this chorus.”
Upon the release of the song, many believed the lyrics were a dig at the Chicago-bred rapper, but as it turns out, according to Cam, it wasn’t a diss.
“Nah, I just told a story,” Cam told us, when asked about the song. “It’s not a diss, I just told a story that Dame Dash told me. Everybody calls it a diss, but it isn’t a diss.”
What are your thoughts? If Cam’ron says it isn’t a diss, it isn’t a diss?
