I want to ask you something, on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the highest score, how well would you rate the current level of satisfaction you feel with your life? I know it seems like a weird question, but it shouldn’t be. Have you ever even thought about it? Are you having regular conversations with the people closest to you about your overall health, wellbeing, and happiness? For many, the honest answer is no.
There’s a ton of reasons why we aren’t talking to each other about “real life” issues. It can be embarrassing to discuss your money problems, hard to show vulnerability or maybe you’re just a private person and don’t want other people in your business. Perhaps, one of the reasons we shy away from exposing the truth about our inner selves is because admitting the problem will require us to act on it. Either way, there’s a significant difference between pretending to be happy and actually being ok. We see it every day on social media, people aren’t always who they post to be.
The saying is true; no one can make you do anything you aren’t ready to. However, if you are really struggling to find the joy and happiness in your life, keep these things in mind:
Comparison Is The Thief Of Joy- most of the time, we’d all be a lot happier if we stopped looking around at what everyone else is doing or what they have and just focus on your own accomplishments no matter how big or small they may be.
Don’t Self Medicate- no amount of liquor, sex or drugs will ease the pain of whatever you may be going through. It may not seem like a big deal, and you may really think you have a handle on things, but you should consider seeking professional help if you are reaching for anything or anyone to numb your feelings versus addressing them yourself.
It’s Ok To Ask For Help- it really is. Stop being your own and only resource. You may not always get help from the people you want it from, but there’s always a way to get the help you need.
Keep Things In Perspective- you don’t always need to hear of someone else’s misfortune to have appreciation for your troubles. Sometimes our situations really aren’t all that bad, but we make mountains out of molehills. Make up in your mind to take control and work to make your situation better. Even if you can’t, you can still try to find something positive in the midst of your storm.
