It’s all about women recognizing their power— and using it.

Amazon is covering new ground as the retail giant will step into producing a new series, titled, ”Deadtown, ” where stories focus on women who meet in a purgatory after they have been underutilized by male superheroes.

”Deadtown” is based on ”The Refrigerator Monologues,” a novella by Catherynne M. Valente.

Shauna Cross, writer of female roller derby flick, “Whip It” and “Bad Santa 2,” is adapting the book. Amazon Studios will partner with  Entertainment One and Grey Matter Entertainment.

“The Refrigerator Monologues” focuses on five women who die after crossing paths with male superheroes. The women are “fridged,” or killed after being used as a pawn for their male counterparts.

The women meet in a purgatory called Deadtown, where they reclaim their lives and discover their inner powers in the process.

Amazon has already dipped its toes into comic books after it aired one season of “The Tick,” which has just been confirmed for a second. Amazon also has two new shows, “The Boys” and an animated series, “Invincible,” set to air in 2019.

Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke’s was open about her desire is to make shows that women “can’t stop talking about,” and a superhero franchise fronted by women has never exactly been done before.

Cross will executive produce “Deadtown” with help from Valente, Lawrence Grey, Ben Everard, and Cliff Roberts.⠀⠀

Cross is repped by WME and Syndicate. Valente is repped by Rain Management and Howard Morhaim Literary Agency.
