Back in September 2017, Kenneka Jenkins was found dead in a freezer at Rosemont Hotel after the 19-year-old went missing.
Videos surfaced of Jenkins wandering the hotel just before her untimely death. There were many conspiracy theories, but police refuted them all.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled Jenkins’ death an accident. Medical officials say that she died from hypothermia after being exposed to cold. Her toxicology tests detected alcohol and topiramate, an epilepsy/migraine medication, in her system, which also contributed to her death.
One year later, Teresa Martin, Kenneka Jenkins’ mother, has decided to file a lawsuit against the hotel.
According to CBS 2 Chicago, the lawsuit claims that the hotel staff, the security company, and a hotel restaurant, are responsible for Jenkins’ death. It also states that the defendants were negligent because they didn’t secure the walk-in freezer or conduct a proper search when Jenkins went missing.
Teresa Martin is seeking $50 million.
