As we wait for the black leading roles of 2019, this past year in movies was great for black comedies and racially-charged films. Featuring some of the top black actors alongside plenty of newcomers, the list of best movies with a black lead in 2018 includes something for everyone. Here are the top five best movies with a black lead of 2018.
“Black Panther”
WAKANDA FOREVER! ”Black Panther” was not only the most talked about movie of 2018, but it was an overall top grossing movie all over the world. Black Panther had everyone on the edge of their seats with its eye-popping, heart-pounding blockbuster experience, and memorable lines.
“The Hate U Give”
If you thought the novel had you emotional, then you know the movie would be even more indulgent. Starring Amandla Stenberg and named after the acronym T.H.U.G. formed by the late great Tupac, this film was directed by George Tillman Jr. and written by Aubrey Wells, based on Angie Thomas. The movie relates to realistic and sometimes fatal situations between black men and white cops.
“Creed 2”
Following his role in “Black Panther” and being named one of GQ’s 2018 Men of the Year, Michael B. Jordan, definitely had us hooked on the anticipated sequel to “Creed,” following Adonis Creed as he seeks payback for his father’s final fight in 1985. This film is already featured on the list of top grossing films and is very much on its way to becoming the second biggest film of 2018.
“Equalizer 2”
Denzel Washington brings the heat in the sequel to this film as Robert Mcall, who is seeking justice for the murder of his friend Susan. He returns to his old ways to seek revenge on anyone who was apart of Susan’s death. If you missed this movie, you missed an action-packed experience.
“Acrimony”
Money can’t buy years of pain and suffering. Tyler Perry’s film starring Taraji P. Henson had everyone glued to the screen trying to figure out what will happen next. This movie showed another side of a hurt woman through storytelling and emotional visuals. Although the ending left us on a cliffhanger, it has us wondering will there be a part two.
