A 21 year old Pennsylvania man identified as Malik was arrested after he reportedly tried to get a bag of marijuana back from an Uber driver who turned out to be an undercover state trooper, according to state police and CBS Pittsburgh.
Police say an Uber driver found a black bag in his car after a ride in late December and contacted authorities. Inside was about two pounds of vacuum sealed marijuana. Police say the passenger emailed Uber looking for the bag, and a trooper posed as the driver and called the number provided.
According to the criminal complaint, the man confirmed the bag was his and identified it as black. The trooper sent him a photo of the bag, and he reportedly confirmed it was his. They arranged to meet at a McDonald’s in Irwin, Westmoreland County. When he arrived, an undercover officer handed over the bag and other officers moved in and took him into custody.
He has been charged with drug possession and criminal use of a communication facility and is being held at the Westmoreland County Jail. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for January 30. The charges are allegations, and he has not been convicted of anything.
