Terry Crews Says Black Men Shunned Him While Black Women Supported Him After Sexual Assault Confession: “All My Support Came From Black Women. Straight Up”

Terry Crews says Black women supported him following his confession of sexual assault while Black men stayed silent.

Back in 2017, Crews was allegedly assaulted by Hollywood executive #AdamVenit during an industry event, where Crews claims Venit grabbed his crotch. Eventually, Crews opened up about the assault, but instead of receiving support and praise from the entire Black community, Crews says it was majority Black women who stood firmly by his side while Black men offered no empathy.

Crews has since filed a lawsuit against Venit, which reached a settlement with Venit denying all allegations. However, Venit’s denial became less believable after Crews posted an apology that was sent to him from Venit on Facebook, which raised more attention.  During Crews’ sit-down with #AndyCohen, he discussed how Black women were right by his side through the entire ordeal.

“To be honest with you, when it first happened, there was none [no support] for a long time,” he said. “The people who surprised me the most were Black women.” Crews then expressed how he was disappointed in Black men for not speaking up. “Black men did not want any part of it,” he continued. “All my support came from Black women. Straight up.”

Crews said he originally thought Black men would have been the main force protecting him the most. “A lot of guys were just like, ‘Man, you weak. You sorry. You should have hit him. You should’ve knocked him out. You should have did all this stuff,'” he said. “Black women were like, ‘No, no, it doesn’t work like that.’ I was shocked at the split within my own community.”
