The Lifetime docuseries “Surviving R. Kelly” detailed longstanding allegations of abuse against the singer and prompted fresh scrutiny of his career, including calls for a new investigation and several artists pulling their collaborations with him from streaming services.
Now another woman is speaking out. In an on camera interview with Dateline, set to air Friday night on NBC, a woman who interned at Epic Records in 1999 says Kelly sexually abused her when she was 16.
The woman, Tracy, who is now 36, first shared her story with The Washington Post in May 2018. According to The Hollywood Reporter, she says it began when Kelly kissed her and then pursued a sexual relationship with her. She told Dateline she was unsure what was normal at the time, saying, “I didn’t know if this is how adults acted.”
Reports say she filed a lawsuit against Kelly after the relationship ended and settled out of court in 2002 for $250,000.
Kelly has denied abuse allegations. His attorney, Steven Greenberg, said he did not represent Kelly at the time in question but that the claim did not happen, and that the women making allegations against Kelly have offered no proof. No criminal charges had been announced against Kelly at the time of this report.
