Just days after Chris Brown was accused of rape, arrested on the allegation, detained for questioning and later released without conditions, the lawyer representing the accuser says the two are still working towards criminal charges.
In a statement to The Blast, Franck Serfati, the 23-year-old anonymous accuser’s lawyer, said, “We hope legally that the Public Prosecutor will open a criminal investigation to shed light on these very serious facts.”
“For now, my client is in a situation of distress and the impression that her voice is not perfectly heard,” Serfati continued, before referencing Brown’s lawsuit against the accuser.
“As of today, I do not know if Chris Brown has filed a complaint against my client,” he said. “But we know that the ‘best defense is the attack.”
“We will fight to thwart his defense strategy, especially since my client claims to be a victim of aggravated rape, allegedly committed by three individuals, whose explanations seem to contain contradictions.”
Despite Serfati’s statement to The Blast, Brown was released because of the inconsistencies in the accuser’s story, especially the fact that the woman did not try to leave or inform any of the 20 other people in the suite of the alleged incident. However, in another interview with the Associated Press, Serfati claimed that although his client “was not pressured physically” in Brown’s hotel suite, she was in “an environment with great psychological pressure” from big, older men.
In the interview, Serfati claimed Brown allegedly “cornered [his client] in a room that was locked.” He said, “there were forced sexual relations and then he went to talk to other men – it was a masculine environment.”
While the investigation into the allegations is ongoing, Brown has been released without charges.
