Actor and musician Jussie Smollett performed his first show since his reported attack last week and, in turn, got emotional telling fans that although he isn’t fully healed, he is doing “OK.”
As many outlets have reported, the “Empire” actor said he was attacked by two men who were “yelling out racial and homophobic slurs” in what Chicago police are investigating as a possible hate crime. He also recalled one of the attackers putting a rope around his neck and pouring an unknown chemical substance on him.
However, the ordeal didn’t stop Jussie from keeping his commitment to perform at West Hollywood’s #TroubadourClub on Saturday night. During his performance, Smollett cleared the air about a few discrepancies in the circulating story.
He told fans he was bruised, but his ribs were not cracked or broken. He also said he went to the doctor immediately following the attack, but he was never hospitalized.
Smollett said to the crowd, “I’m not fully healed yet. But I’m going to (be), and I’m gonna stand strong with y’all.” He continued, “I had to be here with y’all… Above all I fought the f**k back.” After the encore, Jussie stated now is the time to be “blacker” and gayer.”
It’s great to see Jussie in such great spirits and back doing what he loves! Continued prayers to Jussie and his family.
