As the widow of an admired politician, you’d think Cindy McCain would know better than to lie about such a serious matter.
On Monday, John McCain’s widow, who has taken great pride in being an anti-trafficking advocate, made claims that she was an eye-witness to a woman trafficking a young child at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. Radio station KTAR got the story straight from the horse’s mouth.
“I came in from a trip I’d been on, and I spotted—it looked odd—it was a woman of a different ethnicity than the child, this little toddler she had, and something didn’t click with me,” she said.
“I went over to the police and told them what I saw, and they went over and questioned her and, by God, she was trafficking that kid.”
Basically, if you’re of a certain ethnicity carrying around a child of another, you absolutely must be a human trafficker! (Mind you, Cindy has an adopted daughter from Bangladesh.) However, McCain’s claim proved to be completely false after a police investigation. The “New York Post” reported a welfare check was conducted based on the Arizona Governor’s Council co-chair’s accusations. However, Sgt. Armando Carbajal determined that was a lie. *Maury Povich voice.”
“Officers determined there was no evidence of criminal conduct or child endangerment.”
McCain has since then tweeted an apology and commended the police force on their “diligence.”
“At Phoenix Sky Harbor, I reported an incident that I thought was trafficking. I commend the police officers for their diligence. I apologize if anything else I have said on this matter distracts from ‘if you see something, say something.’”
