Kanye West is now the victim of some serious identity fraud, and the costs are upwards of $1 million.
Exclusive sources told The Blast that Kanye’s “friend” Malik Yusuf secretly contacted designer Phillipp Plein, misrepresented himself as a rep for Kanye and negotiated a Yeezy performance for close to $1 million.
Plein, who is staging a big New York Fashion Week event this coming Monday, excitedly agreed to the offer and coughed up $900,000, which he reportedly wired to Yusef.
Yusef then allegedly forged Kanye’s name on the contracts and cleaned out the account and now the designer has lost his cash and has no Kanye performance for Monday’s show.
According to the contract, West was supposed to show up five hours ahead of time, walk the red carpet, attend the catwalk presentation, the cocktail party, and the dinner. He was supposed to perform three songs with an orchestra and the deal called for Kanye to not wear any visible brands or logos other than Philip Plein — though he was allowed to wear his signature Yeezys.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Malik is a multi-grammy award-winning spoken word poet and longtime Kanye associate of G.O.O.D. Music, but no other details were provided.
Neither Yeezy nor Plein have offered a comment, but we’re sure this is not over.
