Mexican Drug Lord Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman Found Guilty On All U.S. Counts

After almost three months of testimonies and six days of deliberation, a jury has convicted infamous Mexican drug lord, Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, on all counts of criminal conspiracy and drug trafficking.

During the trial, according to reports, the jury heard “extensive testimony about Guzman’s rise to power” as the head of the Sinaloa cartel. Prosecutors claim he’s responsible for smuggling at least 200 tons of cocaine into the United States in addition to numerous killings in turf wars with other cartels.

Before jury deliberations began on February 4, the judge instructed jurors to review ten criminal counts against Guzman. Those counts include: Engaging in a continuing criminal enterprise, International Cocaine, Heroin, Methamphetamine and Marijuana Manufacture and Distribution Conspiracy, Cocaine Importation Conspiracy, Cocaine Distribution Conspiracy, four counts of International Distribution of Cocaine, Use of Firearms and Conspiracy to Launder Narcotics Proceeds. He was convicted on all 10. 

The 61-year-old faces a life sentence.
