After the longstanding controversy over Colin Kaepernick’s peaceful protest and subsequent unemployment, the former quarterback has officially reached a settlement with the NFL.
Back in 2017, Kaepernick, alongside his former teammate Eric Reid, filed a lawsuit against his former employer, accusing owners of working together to keep him out of the league after his peaceful protest against police brutality and social injustices sparked widespread backlash and controversy.
Although the league denied the allegations, a judge allowed the grievance to advance – with several owners, as well as commissioner Roger Goodell, deposed in the case.
Now, after a longstanding legal back and forth, Kaepernick’s attorneys, Mark Geragos and Ben Meiselas, have released a statement, announcing the end of the legal battle.
“For the past several months, counsel for Mr.Kaepernick and Mr. Reid have engaged in an ongoing dialogue with representatives of the NFL.,” the statement read. “As a result of those discussions, the parties have decided to resolve the pending grievances. The resolution of this matter is subject to a confidentiality agreement so there will be no further comment by any party.”
Although Kaepernick remains unemployed, Reid was picked up by the Carolina Panthers in 2018, and most recently, the baller reportedly signed a $22 million, 3-year extension.
