New details in R.Kelly’s criminal investigation have led to a legal proceeding that could very well end with an indictment against the self-proclaimed Pied-Piper, according to sources close to the case.
According to CNN, a grand jury has been seated in Cook County, Illinois, in connection to a recently surfaced sex tape involving Kelly and an alleged underaged girl, who refers to her private areas as “14-year-old p*ssy.”
Late last week, attorney Michael Avenatti announced he had turned over the tape to the State Attorney’s office, and acknowledged that it was “within the statute of limitations necessary to charge R. Kelly, and I am confident that in the coming days R. Kelly will be indicted, he will be arrested.”
However, in the meantime, Kelly’s attorney, Steve Greenberg, said he had not been notified of the grand jury.
“No one from law enforcement has contacted me or my client regarding any potential investigation,” he said. “Certainly they are aware that I am representing him so if there were any reason to speak to him I would suspect they would have reached out to me.”
“Grand jury proceedings are, by law, supposed to be secret, so to the extent people are commenting on what may or may not be going on today are possibly violating the law. Still, I can tell you that I am unaware of any proceedings,” Greenberg continued.
