The sneak peek into one of the most controversial Sundance Film Festival projects is officially out.

Despite all the negative attention Director Dan Reed had to fight off, the piece is expected to be released on HBO. James Safechuck and Wade Robson will share the stories they claim have scarred them since childhood. Both men say they share an experience of sexual abuse at the hands of the late Michael Jackson.

Michael’s family and estate have worked tirelessly to discredit the validity of the film because it paints a false picture of the icon. However, Reed has worked just as hard against them. He explained to Variety, “This is not a movie about Michael Jackson. This is not a movie about Michael Jackson abusing little boys. It’s a movie about two families and how two families came to terms with what their sons revealed to them many years after Jackson died.”

Regardless of fans’ displeasure, HBO CEO Richard Plepler is not letting public opinion affect his network.

Unfortunately, the four-hour-long piece that has been described as “heartbreaking” will air next month.
