Two daycare workers in Pine Lawn, Missouri have been charged with child abuse after surveillance video reportedly showed them hurting children in their care, according to North County Police.
North County Police announced the charges in a Facebook post. The incidents happened in February at Brighter DayCare and Preschool.
Police said one worker, Wilma, 27, was recorded on video throwing a 3 year old girl across a room into a piece of furniture on February 1. The girl had a gash on her head and received seven stitches at a hospital.
The girl’s family released the video to the media earlier this week. The family’s attorney told NBC News they wanted the video public “to get justice for the little girl.” The attorney added that the child is getting lots of love and support while she heals and that her family hopes the footage ensures other children are not harmed by people entrusted to keep them safe.
A second worker, Ariana, 22, was charged in a separate incident on February 4. Police said that video showed her grabbing a 4 year old girl by the leg, breaking the child’s skin, and carrying her by the foot to a cot where she dropped her. Both women were charged with felony child abuse.
Ariana was arrested and was being held on a $50,000 cash bond. A warrant was still outstanding for Wilma. The daycare’s attorney said in a statement that both women no longer work there. Charges are allegations, and both women are presumed innocent unless convicted.
