Tracee Ellis Ross may be the next “Black-ish” star to receive a spinoff series based on her beloved character, Bow. But until then, ABC has selected a few Hollywood heavy hitters to star in a flashback episode that will air later this season.
According to Deadline, “Workaholic” co-creator Anders Holm, “The Haves and the Have Nots” star Tika Sumpter, and “Before You Know It” actress Arica Himmel have been tapped to lead the cast for the forthcoming episode, with Gary Cole, Ethan William Childress, Mykal-Michelle Harris, and Christina Anthony expected to join.
The “Bow-Centric” episode, which will serve as a pilot episode for a potential prequel series set in the 1980s-90s, will follow the upbringing of the show’s lead, Rainbow Johnson.
Himmel has been selected to play the teen version of Bow, while Holm and Sumpter have signed on to fill the role of Bow’s parents, Paul and Alicia.
Although the first episode will premiere sometime this season, if the series is picked up, it will be the second ‘Black-ish’ spinoff, joining Yara Shahidi’s “Grown-ish.”
