Ava DuVernay is a woman of her word. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Back in August, the award-winning director vowed to work with Grammy-nominated singer, Tevin Campbell, by any means necessary.
DuVernay offered to write him into an episode of OWN’s “Queen Sugar” on general principle to combat all Campbell slander.
It all started after a Twitter user named Luvvie questioned the current cultural relevance of Tevin Campbell by asking what rock they pulled his name from under. The question came after users suggested he be part of an Aretha Franklin tribute in light of her August 2018 death. Perhaps Campbell’s detractors were too young or sheltered to remember the singers rise to fame, his tutelage under legendary music producer Quincy Jones or his 90’s R & B classic anthem “Can We Talk.”
Either way, DuVernay stepped in to show support of the singer and shut down the slander. But now, it appears the director kept her promise.
“Ava is a doer. She kept her word.” Campbell said in a video from the show’s set, as he thanked DuVernay and the cast and crew.
Look for Campbell to appear on the critically acclaimed drama series when it returns for their fourth season.
