A shipping mix up has turned into a legal headache for a Massachusetts man. Nick, a 35 year old from Freetown, was arrested after police say he kept a TV that was delivered to his home by mistake, according to Boston 25 News.
Per the report, Nick ordered a 74 inch TV from Amazon, but a third party shipping company delivered a larger 86 inch model instead. Nick acknowledged the bigger TV arrived in error. Instead of sending it back, he mounted it in his living room.
The shipping company told Boston 25 News it tried several times to reach him about the mistake before going to police. The company also says he signed for the delivery, which Nick disputes. He told the station that police questioned him days before the arrest and that he was told he was not under investigation at that point.
Police later arrived at his home, searched it, and found the TV on the wall. Nick was arrested and charged with larceny and misleading a police officer, per the report. He said he looked into the laws and treated the mix up as a gamble, adding that he would have paid for the extra TV or returned it if he had expected an arrest. He also said Amazon told him he had nothing to worry about, though the report did not include a statement from Amazon itself.
Nick has not been convicted of anything, and he could face jail time if he is found guilty.
