Young Thug is going to have an easy, breezy weekend after the latest developments in his drug case.
The rapper has been dealing with a tricky trial dating back to 2017. A police car pulled him over for a window tint violation and allegedly smelled weed. They believed they had reason to search his vehicle, found drugs, and arrested Young Thug. Almost two years later, a judge has decided to throw out the evidence that could’ve led to a lockup for a while.
The Blast reported Young Thug’s lawyers argued the reasoning behind him getting pulled over in the first place unorthodox. Had he not been pulled over for the car tints, he wouldn’t have been arrested. The court document explained, “Officer Fikes testified, unequivocally, that the sole season for stopping the vehicle was based upon a supposed window tint violation … However, there was no credible evidence present, whatsoever, how this vehicle’s window tint violated.”
Basically, the judge agreed saying, “the stop of the vehicle was illegal in violation of the Fourth and Fourteenth Amendments of the United States Constitution.” Especially since there was no evidence that the rapper got the windows tinted after getting the car delivered. And just like that, their key evidence against Thugga Thugga went bye-bye.
“The prosecution failed to present credible evidence that this vehicle was violating the law when it was stopped by law enforcement, and thus, all evidence that flowed directly and indirectly from this illegal stop and seizure must be suppressed, including, but not limited to, all statements, firearms and supposed drugs.”
The rapper isn’t completely off the hook, but at least that’s one huge chunk of the case he doesn’t have to worry about.
