Two-time Olympic gold medalist Clareesa Shields will be getting her very own biopic, written by famed director Barry Jenkins.
The 24-year-old boxing phenom tweeted the announcement, writing, “Hmm Universal studios is doing a remake of my life, written by Barry Jenkins,” to which Jenkins simply replied, “FACTS”; further confirming the upcoming project.
Jenkins first gained mainstream acclaim when he won the Academy Award for Best Picture in 2017 for the film ‘Moonlight.’ He then followed up with 2018’s ‘If Beale Street Could Talk,’ which was based on the James Baldwin novel of the same name.
Claressa Shields made history when she became the first American woman to win Olympic gold in boxing, and she currently holds three middleweight world titles. Her next fight against Christina Hammer for the undisputed championship will be on April 13th.
