A bus driver in Dekalb County, GA has been removed from duty, after a 6-year-old of Flat Shoals Elementary School was found wandering around a busy highway.
Earlier this week, Khloe,6, fell asleep on the school bus on her way to school. According to Fox 5 Atlanta, the bus driver didn’t notice that the child had fallen asleep on the bus. The little girl woke up to an empty bus parked outside of McDonald’s.
Khloe got off of the bus and began walking along a busy highway trying to get to school. A Flat Shoals Elementary School teacher saw the little girl walking and stopped to take the child to school.
The little girl’s teacher called the child’s grandmother, Peggy Mitchell, to ask how Khloe got to school. That’s when the grandmother stated, “ on the school bus. I placed her on the school bus myself.” The teacher then responded with the startling news that someone else walked the child into the school.
“I was devastated,” said the grandmother. The grandmother continued with, “ she could’ve been killed or kidnapped.”
The bus driver has been relieved of their duty until a full investigation is completed. “The district will strongly reemphasize to our drivers our expectations for student safety, as well as the penalties for failing to meet that standard,” a Dekalb County Schools spokesman told Fox 5 News.
