‘Insecure’ Star Jay Ellis Sued Over Alleged Money Owed To Former Management Company After Contract Renegotiation With HBO

Fans may have been hype about Jay Ellis’ unexpected return to ‘Insecure’ last season, but now his attorney’s have a lawsuit on their hands stemming from his surprise appearance.

Ellis’ former management company, Luber Rolkin Entertainment, claims that they represented Ellis throughout his acting career and helped him acquire the role on Issa Rae’s HBO comedy-drama in 2016. Luber Rolkin says the deal for ‘Insecure’ was 10% of all Ellis’ earnings, but in 2017, the actor negotiated an “escalated episodic fee” with HBO that he did not disclose.

Shortly after, Ellis allegedly fired Luber Rolkin in what they believe was a “transparent and intentional effort to avoid paying commissions clearly due and owing to multiple parties.” They claim he owes the 10% fee for seasons 1-2 of ‘Insecure’ but believe Ellis negotiated more money for the 3rd season and beyond.

According to The Blast, the management company doesn’t have an exact figure on how much money is owed because they were unaware of the re-negotiation between Ellis and HBO. They want full accounting done in relation to season 3 of ‘Insecure,’ and then to receive their percentage.
