Atlanta rapper 21 Savage, born She’yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, was featured in Billboard’s new cover story, in which he discussed overcoming his immigration ordeal and how his April 9th hearing had been postponed. In fact, 21’s lawyer Charles Kuck said he believes the rescheduling won’t happen any time soon.
Kuck said, “They don’t have enough non-detained judges, so his case is waiting to be assigned. I can’t give anybody, even him, a date as to when that might be.” According to reports, the rapper is experiencing the same difficult process many immigrants go through to attain a U.S. citizenship.
In the interview, 21 Savage spoke about his arrest stating, “The worst thing was sitting in there not knowing what was going to happen, or when it’s going to happen. Whenever I went to jail before, it was, ‘You’re being charged with this and going to court on this date.’ But immigration ain’t like that. You’re just being held.”
According to Billboard, 21 still has a chance at obtaining permanent residency in the United States because he’s lived in Atlanta for over 10 years and has three children, all of whom are U.S. citizens.
21 said, “Just stay down with me and wait.”
