BET has ordered a new comedy series titled #Twenties from writer, actor and producer, #LenaWaithe.
Waithe is the master of many, producing some of our favorite shows like #TheChi, #Boomerang and more. Now, the multimedia mogul is extending her talents in the form of a new show called “Twenties,” which has been ordered by BET Network.
According to Variety, the network ordered an eight-episode pilot season for the show, which will be a 30-minute comedy series. The program was a project Waithe created back in her early 20s. The show tells the journeys of a queer Black girl, Hattie, and her two straight best friends, as they explore their early years of adulthood while fighting towards their dreams and balancing their personal lives. “‘Twenties’ has been a project I’ve been dreaming about for as long as I can remember. I think a lot of people were interested but didn’t see the vision. I’m so grateful Scott Mills, and Connie Orlando did. I couldn’t be more excited to deepen my relationship with BET. I know audiences have been waiting a long time for this one,” said Waithe.
Waithe is set to executive produce alongside Susan Fales-Hill, who will serve as co-showrunner, Variety reports. “BET Networks is thrilled to partner once again with the creative visionary Lena Waithe on both ‘Boomerang’ and ‘Twenties’ as she is without a doubt a leading relevant voice of our generation and a disruptor in her own right,” said Connie Orlando, head of Programming at BET.
Waithe was also picked up for an undisclosed role in the upcoming third season of HBO’s “Westworld.” Waithe has written and produced for notable shows and films like “Dear White People,” “Step-Sisters,” “Transparent,” “The Comeback” and more.
Congrats, Lena!
