It is no doubt that the Houston Texans took a major loss when Andre Johnson and the organization parted ways early in the off season. The receiving core lost its 12-year veteran leadership and possibly the only shot the team had at a future Hall of Famer thus far. It’s no secret why Johnson wanted out. His last year with the Texans appeared to be waiting game as he missed off-season practices. The prior season was complete disgrace and Johnson had previously endured two rebuilding eras with his team. Although the Texans’ had an impeccable defense, Johnson’s talent wasn’t being met with a dependable quarterback. First it was Carr, then Schaub and ultimately Fitzpatrick who proved to be a Matt Schaub with the ability to run.  Mallet on had two good games before a chest injury took him out. Add that to the new coaching system and although Houston improved by 7 games in the 2014 season, it wasn’t enough promise for the seven-time Pro-Bowler.  Johnson also had a contract that was loaded on the back end. While most contracts decline in the last years, Andre’s increased which the organization was not willing to pay.  Couple that with limiting Johnson’s role and the decision to leave was easier than most.

Where does one of the greatest receivers go?  To the Texan’s rival -the Colts. Not only does Indy have a star quarterback , but Luck is arguably one of the best. Precision and quick thinking are synonymous with Luck, something Texans’ starting QB’s have struggled with. Indy also has a winning system and a killer offense that includes the receiving weapon, T.Y. Hilton and rushing maniac, Frank Gore.  How does Dre fit into this scheme? Simple. It is reported that Johnson will be taking on the role as slot receiver in 2015. At 6’3, and a lean 229 pounds, Dre has the ability to move quickly and force mismatches in coverage with his agility. Coach Chuck Pagano affirmed Johnson’s talent, pointing out Dre’s ability to make contested plays in traffic noting  Johnson’s large catch-radius- things the Colts appreciate and plan to put into good use [Yahoo].

In  pursuit of his ring, Johnson could not have made a better decision. Dre has been looking phenomenal at Training Camp according to multiple sources. During his reps, Johnson demonstrates his winning attitude by consistently going onto the field and completing plays; breathing life into his brand’s, TeamEightyOne (formerly Team 80), slogan “Just Throw It”.  The 34-year old veteran doesn’t seem to be slowing up either. At camp, Dre looks just as hungry as the rookies, a quality noted in attaining his goal- appearing in the Super Bowl and garnering the coveted hardware. It is the only thing missing from Dre’s storied lineage.  Future Hall of Famer, 9th of NFL’s career receptions list, 11th in yardage,  2nd player in history with five, 100-catch seasons, Seven-time pro-bowler- all of which was done without a dependable quarterback. In Indy, he has that.  Dre has the additional weapons that will free him up and an elite defense.  It is a recipe for success and an opportunity the humble player deserves.  Besides, if all else fails, Dre will more than likely not be on the losing end of the Colts v. Texans matchup that happens twice each season- a battle that seems more psychological on the Texans’ end.  Johnson’s departure with the Texans’ became a reality on Sunday, when Johnson appeared boasting the number 81 on his chest.  Catching one reception for nine yards, the veteran gave fans a minor glimpse of what can be expected- a solid WR that will get the job done. There is no doubt that Johnson is a jewel within the franchise.
