A 14-year old boy was shot by a stray bullet that came through his bedroom wall.
According to Chicago police, the teen was in his bedroom around 8:40 pm on Thursday night in the Eden Green section of the city’s Far South Side when the bullet burst through the wall and struck him in his shoulder.
According to the Chicago Tribune, police determined that his next door neighbor was handling a gun that went off accidentally and shot the boy in his home.
Officers initially took two people into custody, but they were later released, as it stands police do not intend to pursue any criminal charges. A spokesperson for the police department said that it was determined that the neighbors were legally in possession of the firearm, and the shooting was not intentional.
The boy was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was listed as being in stable condition.
