Jussie Smollet’s brother opened up about the emotional trauma his brother is still dealing with after the alleged attack, in an op-ed piece for BET.
Jojo Smollett claims Jussie is “violently awakening from night terrors, following the assault” and labels any claims that his brother staged the attack as “ludicrous.”
Jojo said he was shocked by how easily the public accepted the rumors of ridiculous motives about his brother needing to advance his career and maintained that Jussie would never have needed to resort to phony publicity stunts to boost his career because he is already quite successful.
According to TMZ, Smollett’s older brother claims Jussie never wanted to contact the police following the incident back in January, and only did so after his choreographer insisted. Jojo claims it was the choreographer who actually called the cops in the first place and questions why his brother would fake an attack and then not want to draw attention to it if this the objective.
Jojo also makes it clear that his brother has plenty of people in his life who support him and that the problem is the incessant “bandwagoning and tyranny of the ‘perceived’ majority.”
“We live in a country that promises liberty, justice and the pursuit of happiness. Jussie deserves those civil guarantees as much as everyone else.”
