Next month, the Women’s National Basketball Association, commonly known as the WNBA, will kick off its 23rd season with additional television coverage, thanks to a new deal with CBS Sports.
According to Time Magazine, in an attempt to expand its national television exposure on the heels of last year’s increase in viewership, the women’s league has signed a partnership deal with CBS Sports Network. Now, in addition to the WNBA’s agreement with ESPN, which shows 16 regular-season games, CBS Sports network will broadcast 40 games, starting with Minnesota Lynx vs. the Chicago Sky on May 25.
“Through our partnership with CBS Sports, the WNBA is joining an elite lineup of premium sports programming,” NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said. “We thank CBS Sports for making such a meaningful commitment to women’s basketball and for providing another platform to showcase the world-class athletes of the WNBA.”
According to the publication, three games will also air on ABC. In the meantime, the WNBA season kicks off on May 24.
