Donald Trump called the CEO of Twitter to the Oval Office because he was upset over lost followers.
Imagine being the leader of the free world with tons of responsibilities like combating hate crimes, gun violence, and the homeless crisis, and the only thing you’re worried about is how many Twitter followers you’ve lost. Well, that’s the story of Trump, who sat down with Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey on Tuesday and accused the social media platform of playing “political games” and messing with his follower count.
And of course, Trump took to Twitter to welcome Dorsey to the Oval Office along with a captioned photo message of the two’s meeting.
“Great meeting this afternoon at the WhiteHouse with Jack from Twitter. Lots of subjects discussed regarding their platform, and the world of social media in general,” the Trump wrote. “Look forward to keeping an open dialogue!” Dorsey then replied, “Thank you for the time. Twitter is here to serve the entire public conversation, and we intend to make it healthier and more civil. Thanks for the discussion about that.”
You’d think the discussion would be about important matters, but nope, Trump claims Dorsey “quietly and deliberately” removed some of his followers. Trump reportedly told Dorsey that other conservatives have had the same experience with losing followers. Dorsey responded saying, the company is making an effort to rid the website of fraudulent and spam accounts, according to Reuters.
White House counselor KellyAnne Conway told the press that Dorsey and the president “had a very productive conversation about keeping the media platforms open for 2020.” “The president is very concerned about what he sees as losing followers or people being blocked for certain actions. That’s obvious,” Conway continued.
