Kyler Murray has made history as the first person ever to be drafted first round in both the NFL and MLB!

Murray, who attended Texas A&M and now Oklahoma University, was reportedly drafted first by the Oakland Athletics’ that guaranteed him an outfielder position and a $4.6 million deal. Murray was the No. 9 overall pick by the Oakland Athletics in 2018 and agreed to a deal that allowed him to play football for one more year at Oklahoma.

However, Murray turned down the offer to play for the MLB after a Heisman Trophy-winning campaign,  in which he gained 5,362 total yards and 54 touchdowns. He then entered the draft and was selected No. 1 overall by the Cardinals. Now, the 21-year-old will be joining the Arizona Cardinals, coached by Kliff Kingsbury. “I can’t put it into words,” Murray said after being selected. “It’s a dream come true,” said Murray. “Kyler is a freak. I would take him with the first pick of the draft if I could,” said Kingsbury in response to the big news.

Murray is expected to receive a four-year rookie contract from the Cardinals, worth approximately eight times the amount the A’s offered. Hypebeast reports Murray will more than likely take the spot of starting quarterback #JoshRosen, whom the Cardinals traded up to draft No. 10 overall last season.

“I think Josh has done everything humanly possible to show what type of quarterback he is, what type of competitor he is,” Kingsbury said in a news conference Tuesday. “I’ve said it all along, I couldn’t be more impressed with his approach. He’s a great player.”

Congrats, Kyler!
