BlocBoy JB has been arrested on a slew of criminal charges, including possession of a handgun as a convicted felon.
On Friday, the Memphis rapper was booked for speeding, possession of marijuana possession of drug paraphernalia, in addition to the gun charge. According to local news, Shelby County police say they were surveilling the area of the rapper’s home when an officer noticed a faint smell of burning marijuana.
Shortly after, officials saw JB speeding and pulled him over to cite him for the traffic violation. But, as the officer completed the stop, he noticed a handgun on the floor of the car. The discovery led to JB’s detention, as officials obtained a warrant to search his home, which uncovered marijuana, scales, handguns, rifles, and ammunition.
Although the “Look Alive” rapper, whose real name is James Baker, said the guns were in the home for a video shoot, as he was in town for work – scheduled to perform Friday at Beale Street Music Festival, officials reportedly detained 20 people and booked Baker and others.
“They weren’t looking for him, and there was no warrant for him personally,” JB’s attorney told Fox13 of the incident. “They may have been looking for other suspects on the premises.”
In the meantime, it remains unclear if JB will be able to make his 7:20 pm performance at the festival.
