The 2019 Met Gala’s theme was “Camp: Notes on Fashion.” For the non-fashion lovers, we are not talking about camping as tents and sleeping bags, but camp as in exaggerated fashion. The theme was inspired by Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay that describes camp as “love of the unnatural: of artifice and exaggeration.”
Many celebs hit the red carpet with the theme in mind and did not come to play. Here are our top looks of the evening in no particular order.
Cardi B. stole the show in an oxblood custom Thom Brown gown that extended about 10 feet. The gown was made from tulle and silk organza that was hand-embroidered with 30,000 burned and dyed coque feathers. The look was completed with a bugle-bead headpiece.
Jennifer Lopez sparkled on the carpet in deep-v Atelier Versace dress with a matching headpiece.
The Wades looked amazing together, and I loved how their look complimented each other. Gabby wore a Dundas metal and high slit gown with a matching headpiece. Dwyane wore a matching Dundas suit.
Kendall and Kylie Jenner gave edge and color in their custom Versace feathered and sparkly gowns.
Janelle Monáe never seems to disappoint and understands the theme every year. When it comes to the Monáe’s style, she takes edge to another level, and I’m here for it. For the evening, she wore an “eye-opening” Christian Soriano dress with a quadruple top hat design. Did you expect anything less from her though?
Ciara also graced the carpet in a custom Dundas gown with side cutouts. The look was simply amazing but what really sealed the look was the hair. Stunning!
Last and certainly not least, Billy Porter. Not only did the actor steal the scene, but he slayed the carpet in a The Blonds golden ensemble with a matching headpiece.
