Raise your hand if you were waiting for some new tunes from Azealia Banks! Now raise your hand if you haven’t heard the old tunes yet… If not, you may have to rely on what’s already on iTunes, Tidal and Spotify for the rest of year.
Fans of Banks will be sad to hear that due to changes in her management, there won’t be any new releases from her forthcoming “Broke With Expensive Taste” project for at least another six months. Last week Banks tweeted, “I’m really bad at choosing business partners LOL,” a joke that frequent followers of Azealia Banks’ career would understand. She’s had pretty public battles with previous management, labels, publicists, and even collaborators (Pharrell, etc). This time appears to be just like the others. “So prospect park has me for management and Label (stupid azealia, right) now Jeff kwatinetz no longer wants to manage me BUT is holding me in my album contract until February 2016. so….. there won’t be any new music until March 2016. sorry guys. Pain from the game… i guess i was so desperate to get my album out that i took a bad business deal.. oh well, the months will fly by.”
And Azealia is right, 6 months really will fly by. In her tweets following days later, the 25 year old seemed pretty optimistic. “You guys! Not being able to release music until 2016 is not even that big a deal! This industry is full of tricks and turns and trap doors. The industry is also a big boys club and as a woman sometime u just can’t go against that. The GREAT thing is that BWET has finally put me in the marketplace as a viable (and self-sustainable) commodity & now I have PLENTY of options.”
