A White House staffer was arrested after police say she fired a gun during an argument with her boyfriend, according to reports from August 2015.
Barvetta Singletary, 37, a special assistant to President Obama who worked as a House legislative liaison, was arrested at her home in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, and charged with domestic violence, according to Fox News. Police said her boyfriend, a U.S. Capitol Police officer who has not been named, was at the home when she accused him of seeing other women. Police allege she took his service weapon and fired one round, which reportedly missed him. He ran from the home and called police, and she was arrested at the scene without incident.
A White House spokesperson said Singletary was placed on unpaid leave and her access to the White House complex was revoked while more information is gathered. Questions about the case were referred to the Prince George’s County Police Department. Reports did not include a comment from Singletary.
