Chance The Rapper Says Michael Jackson Inspired His Community Service Efforts

Chance The Rapper says his desire to serve his community is greatly influenced by the late King of Pop Michael Jackson.

Chance is very open and adamant about activism and social movements, not just in his hometown but in across the world as well. The 26-year-old musician donated millions to support the growth of marginalized communities within in Chicago, between starting his own non-profit organization Social Works and collaborating with other groups like WE Day. In an interview with Forbes’ Steve Baltin, the artist revealed the inspiration behind his social work.

“The greatest of all time, highest I think maybe for overall celebrities, but most philanthropic musician is Michael Joseph Jackson,” Chance explained when asked what artist prompted him to blend music and charity. “The only person I can really think of off the top when I think of charity that’s a musician is Michael Jackson.”⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Additionally, Chance noted that he feels one’s contributions to social service and community are what truly makes a person who they are. He went on to say that his choice for the greatest NBA player of all time would go to Kareem Abdul Jabbar because of his talent and his dedication to making the world a better place. “I just rock with Kareem because he does great things for the community,” Chance stated. “So I’m gonna go, Kareem. I think Kareem is the great for sure.”
