A Mississippi representative punched his wife in the face because she took too long getting undressed.
Police arrived at the home of GOP Rep. Doug McLeod on Saturday after receiving a phone call about a domestic violence situation. According to police, McLeod answered the door drunk while holding a drink. “Are you kidding me?” McLeod said to police, slurring his words. Inside, authorities found his wife shaking and scared with blood on her face from being punched in the nose. Blood was traveling from the couple’s bed onto the floor.
Another woman at the home says his wife, Michele Fontenelle, ran into her room for safety. Through the door, you could hear McLeod banging and yelling, “I’ll kill her [expletive] dog.” Fontenelle told police her husband “just snapped,” something she says he does when he gets drunk. After reports of the lawmaker’s domestic abuse surfaced, he was removed from his position.
“I have attempted to contact Rep. McLeod to request his resignation if, in fact, these allegations are true,” GOP House Speaker Philip Gunn said. He also called McLeod’s behavior “unacceptable for anyone.” The 58-year-old was charged with misdemeanor domestic violence and was let out on bail on $1,000, according to Vibe.
