Famed movie director Quentin Tarantino has tapped comedian Jerrod Carmichael to co-write a Django/Zorro movie based on his crossover DC comic book series of the same name. The comic served as a sequel to Tarantino’s 2012 movie ‘Django Unchained’ starring Jamie Foxx.

According to Collider, the story takes place several years after the events of ‘Django Unchained.’ Django is still a bounty hunter but has moved his efforts out west because he still has a price on his head in the East. He settles his wife, Broomhilda, near Chicago before hitting the road again and eventually running into the aged and sophisticated Diego de la Vega a.k.a Zorro. Django becomes Zorro’s “bodyguard” and joins him on a mission to free the local indigenous people from slavery.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Talks of the project first surfaced in 2014 after the Sony breach, in which several emails were revealed from company execs. Some of those emails included a conversation between Tarantino and then-Sony exec Amy Pascal and they were both in agreement that the movie was a good idea.

Multiple sources have confirmed that the film adaptation is happening and that Carmichael is working on the script; however, it’s unclear whether he will be writing the script himself with oversight from Tarantino or co-writing the script with Tarantino and another unidentified writer. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Jerrod Carmichael created ‘The Carmichael Show,’ and currently executive produces Hulu’s original comedy series ‘Ramy.’ He is also co-writing the remake of Eddie Murphy classic,  ‘48 Hours’.
