Former Boston Red Sox Player, David Ortiz, was wounded during an attempted robbery at an amusement park in the Dominican Republic.
Ortiz was “shot in the back in an incident that took place at Dial Discotheque in Santo Domingo,” Felix Durán Mejia, spokesperson for the Dominican National Police, told CNN Espanol.
Ortiz’s father spoke with ESPN about his son. “They called to tell me that David is injured and that they took him to a medical center, but they did not tell me how he is or exactly where he was transferred,” Leo told ESPN via telephone from the Dominican Republic.
Ortiz played for Boston for 14 of his 20 major league seasons. He was a 10-time All-Star and three-time World Series champion.
The story is still developing.
